Bottom up. Making listening comprehensible

Listening, students tell us, is hard. The speakers are talking too fast! They seem to run their words together! This one is mumbling, and that one has an accent I am not used to! I thought the man was talking about work, but it turns out he was talking about his sister - what did I miss?

In this session we will look at some of the root causes of statements like these, which is a failure of bottom up processing skills. What is bottom up processing? This session will answer that. We will also discuss how standard skills lessons may not be adressing (addressing) this area enough. And of course we will experience practical example for working on this area to improve students ability to listen not just to the text in front of them, but in general.
